Tips & Trends: Shareen’s Tips For Renovating In Inside Out

A huge thank you to Inside Out magazine for including Share Design in the ‘Ask The Experts’ section of the Kitchen and Bathroom feature.

Shareen Joel (that’s me!) shares her tips to making any renovation ‘journey’ more enjoyable.

Tips for Renovating – The Interview:

What is the most important thing to do BEFORE you start a renovation?

The most successful outcome always comes from having a clear brief and understanding of what you want your renovation to achieve.
Establishing a budget and defining the design style at the beginning makes the design process clearer and the renovating ‘journey’ more enjoyable.

What are a few essential skills to have when renovating?

Organisation and trust! If you are organised, know what you want, confident about making decisions and trust your designer, architect and builder then the job is so much easier and relaxed.

Where are a few good places to get inspiration?

Share Design and design magazines of course!
The concept of Share Design has developed over years of experience in the design industry and seeing the overwhelming number of choices and options available. Share Design is a curated and inspiring resource bringing together everything from taps to paint colours, artwork to timber flooring. Share Design also covers design styles and spaces and helps you achieve the look for yourself as a storyboard that you can share with your designer, builder, and friends.

What is a mistake that first-time renovators often make?

Being easily influenced by other things they see once the design has been completed and then changing their mind about the style, fittings & fixtures. Design changes always impact the budget of a project so doing up front research, trusting your designer and architect and having confidence in your decisions will prevent unnecessary costs down the track.

What is some aspect/ product that always costs more money and time than people think?

The design details can cost more money and time than most people think. The design details are what makes the difference to a project and creates an incredible environment. This can apply to the structure, interior joinery or furniture. Clients often underestimate the time and cost of these details in the beginning but always appreciate them once they are completed.
