You may remember the Sorrento beach house from when we featured it last year (see the post here). Well, it belongs to our very own Share Design founder industrial & interior designer Shareen Joel, and we have been bursting to share these new photographs some of which were also recently featured in Real Living.
Tucked away in Sorrento on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, this weekender was designed by Shareen’s interior design company, Shareen Joel Design (SJD).
With a wish to have a relaxed coastal retreat for her family of four, Shareen Joel Design were faced with a brief that called for a design that was casual, had plenty of room for entertaining family and friends, and of course offered enough storage for her husband and son’s sailing equipment. Ultimately, SJD had to create something that felt casual, relaxed, and wasn’t too precious.
Conscious of the relatively small block of land and concern for sustainability, SJD cleverly integrated the design into the coastal surroundings with little disruption to the landscape. The innovative L-shaped floor plan, which was built around a beautiful existing Moonah tree, feels spacious and easy to live in, even with a full house of family and friends. Natural light and cross ventilation were a must, as was the use of natural materials. SJD incorporated beautiful floorboards throughout, as well as timber window frames and external cladding. Inside, SJD layered textures and tones heavily with vintage furniture, mixed with new design pieces.
SJD’s cleverly resolved design captures the essence of everything that a coastal retreat should be; relaxed, easy living and enjoyable.
