Vincent Van Duysen’s DC II Residence & Office H
We’re very lucky to have had the pleasure of featuring some of Australia’s best designers on Share Design, but today we’re heading internationally with a touch of Belgian sophistication. We’ve spoken exclusively to the one and only Vincent Van Duysen about his most recent projects.
After graduating from the Architecture Institute Saint-Lucas in Ghent, Van Duysen founded his Antwerp design studio in 1990, which is one of the world’s most revered design firms today. His sensitive and sophisticated approach to design truly is one-of-a-kind.
Vincent Van Duysen Architects is a multi disciplinary studio, having completed residential homes, offices, commercial interiors, product and furniture design. Van Duysen has always been partial to residential architecture and interior design, and a particular favourite of ours is the DC II Residence, Tielrode.
Located in the countryside of Belgium, the DC II Residence is natural and pure, and looks at ease in the luscious green surroundings.
Van Duysen was careful to acknowledge the history of what was once a working farm by carefully reincarnating the footprint of the original structures – a main building and two accompanying barns.
Each structure references the traditional and iconic form of Flemish farms but in an incredibly considered and contemporary manner. All three buildings are completely clad in timber, concealing gutters and chimneys with carefully placed doors and windows, which make way for the views of the surrounding fields.
Inside the DC II Residence Van Duysen has carefully curated a balance of textural materials, natural light and confident lines, telling of his timeless design aesthetic. Functionality, durability and comfort are truly at the heart of the DC II Residence and are elements that are essential to all Van Duysen projects.
Office H in Kortijk is another of Van Duysen’s projects that we admire (and secretly envy when it comes to office spaces).
With a colour palette that is slightly richer and deeper than the DC II Residence, the design still has Van Duysen’s signature style – a beautifully sophisticated aesthetic prompted by structured materiality and soft lighting.
Both the DC II Residence and Office H are everything we respect and admire – sophisticated yet relaxed, minimal yet warm and most of all impeccably detailed.
